From April 10 to 11, the 2025 China Mobile Cloud AI Conference was held in Suzhou. Xu Kunlin, Governor of Jiangsu attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. Yang Jie, Chairman of China Mobile Communications Group gave the keynote address. Xia Bing, Deputy Director of National Data Administration, Fang Xinping, Deputy Director of Informatization Development Bureau of the Office of Central Cyberspace Affairs Commission addressed the conference. The main forum of the conference unveiled the Cloud Intelligent Computing New Momentum Programme. Tan Tieniu, Chair of NJU CPC Council and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Zhou Song, Chief Accountant of China National Petroleum Corporation, Zhou Hongyi, Founder of 360 Digital Security Group and Chen Huaida, Deputy General Manager of China Mobile Communications Group gave speeches. Academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering: Lu Jun, Zheng Weimin, Zhang Hongke, Wu Shizhong and Secretary General of Jiangsu Provincial People's Government Lyu Deming attended the conference.
Tan Tieniu, delivered a speech on "Rational and Pragmatic Promotion of AI Development and Application." He reviewed the history of the development of AI, analyzed the current trend of AI and the many difficulties it faces, and pointed out that the research and application in the field of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) still have a long way to go. At present, AI presents a brand-new development trend. Artifical Narrow Intelligence (ANI) is becoming more mature, big model technology has made important breakthroughs, generative AI has been revitalized, and embodied intelligence and humanoid robots have attracted much attention. Tan said that the development history of AI reveals us that the basic discipline is the cornerstone of sustainable development of disciplines, the application demand is the inexhaustible source of scientific innovation, interdisciplinarity is the "shortcut" to innovation breakthroughs, tolerance of failure is the rightful meaning of supporting innovation. Hence, we should set goals rationally and promote development pragmatically.
Tan Tieniu believes that AI that is fully comparable to human intelligence is still out of reach. On the basis of fine-tuning specialized AI, it is desirable to promote the research of multi-purpose AI for practical applications. He pointed out that the extensive development model of "piling up computing power and data" has unsustainable drawbacks, and the development path of AI should be shifted to "dexterity" AI, and the development of efficient and lightweight AI is crucial.
Tan Tieniu stressed that AI research should return to its origin, pay special attention to basic research and methodological innovation while promoting technological and application innovation, and rationally and pragmatically push forward the development and application of AI, so as to seize the first opportunity of the new round of science and technology and industrial revolution. He proposed that it is necessary to firmly establish a rational and pragmatic development concept, create an open, shared, autonomous and controllable AI innovation ecosystem with global competitiveness, accelerate the in-depth integration of AI and industrial applications, vigorously promote AI-enabled scientific research, strengthen the training of basic research talents, and unswervingly promote open cooperation. He said that AI has made a series of important breakthroughs after nearly 70 years of development, but overall it is still in the primary stage, and there is still huge space for innovation. AI will become the core driving force of the new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial change, accelerating human society into a new era of intelligence.
Relevant responsible persons of state ministries and commissions, representatives from relevant departments and units of Jiangsu Province and Suzhou City, heads of enterprises, and representatives of universities, research institutes and investment institutions attended the conference.
