On April 2, the opening ceremony of 黑料社's Fifth Graduate Academic and Technology Festival was held at the Pukou Campus. Tan Tieniu, Chair of NJU CPC Council and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, delivered the first lecture titled "Embrace Artificial Intelligence, Strive to Be the New Generation of the Era" to over a thousand teachers and students both online and offline. He guided everyone to appreciate the charm of artificial intelligence and encouraged them to embrace the responsibilities in the AI era.

"AI is not omnipotent; there are still many things it cannot do. However, in today's era of widespread AI penetration and the oncoming intelligent age, it is impossible to avoid learning or understanding AI!" Tan Tieniu pointed out that since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, President Xi Jinping has made a series of important statements on AI, providing direction and fundamental guidance for promoting AI innovation and leading social transformation.

In his report, Tan Tieniu introduced the development history and insights, current status and impact, trends, and prospects of AI. He noted that after nearly 70 years of development, AI has entered daily life, with its social impact becoming increasingly prominent. "Coal miners clocking in using iris recognition technology, lifelike bionic robotic fish, and the autonomous standing electric Atlas robot..." Tan Tieniu showcased several video clips, each vivid example eliciting waves of amazement from the students. Tan Tieniu emphasized that AI has become the most transformative technology, and ubiquitous AI will be the trend. Students should calmly face various challenges and use AI wisely. First, they must actively embrace AI. They should utilize NJU's resources to enhance their AI literacy and improve their learning efficiency. Second, they must recognize the risks and challenges brought by AI development, accurately grasp AI's tool attributes, and focus on improving critical thinking and creativity. Tan encouraged students to deeply study and comprehend President Xi Jinping's series of important statements and instructions on education, youth, and AI development, work hard, and strive to grow into the new generation capable of shouldering the responsibility of national rejuvenation. Participants listened attentively, and many raised questions after the report. "Will AI develop autonomous consciousness? Will AI impact our future job prospects? How should students in humanities and social sciences use AI to enhance learning efficiency?" Tan Tieniu patiently answered each question.

After the lecture, Tan Tieniu visited various places on Pukou Campus, including the Yuhui Building, the Zuo Dijian Sports Hall, the dormitories 17-21 and the No. 15 Student Canteen. During his visits, Tan Tieniu emphasized that responsible persons from relevant departments should truly understand students' thoughts and concerns and promptly solve urgent issues like commuting difficulties by optimizing bus routes and accelerating subway line construction, creating a comfortable, secure, and joyful campus environment at Pukou Campus, enhancing students' sense of belonging and happiness.
